Granary Digital Academy teaches the work that goes on in the barn: creativity, podcasting, studio lighting, film crew work and live production. It comes in three forms. There are audio courses for your podcast app, video courses you watch when it suits you, and small-group days on the real kit at Adsdean.
The courses come out of that work. Our podcast studio records shows for clients, photographers hire the White Space cove, and the main stage has its own lighting rig. The days at the barn run in those rooms, on that kit, in small groups so everyone gets hands on.
Out now: The Phoenix Formula
The Phoenix Formula is an audio course on creativity, presented by Mia Moore, co-host of the Creative Conversations podcast, and built from a year of those conversations. There's a short welcome, then 24 weekly episodes, most of them ten to fifteen minutes long, each with a short PDF workbook for the exercises. It arrives as your own private podcast feed, which you open in the podcast app on your phone. There's no account and no password to remember.
It costs £149 including VAT, and you can hear the first episode before you buy.
Eight more, each with something free now
The other courses have waiting lists. Join one and three things happen:
- a free download arrives straight away, taken from the course it belongs to
- you hear first when the course opens or, for the days at the barn, when dates are set
- you get the founding price, which is less than the full price
Here is what each one is and what you get for joining.
- Unstuck: A 21-Day Creative Restart, an audio course: a welcome and 21 daily episodes, each ending with one small thing to make. Free when you join: Three days of Unstuck, three printable prompt cards from week one.
- Make a Podcast People Finish, a video course on planning, recording, editing and publishing a podcast that listeners stay with to the end. Free: The pilot episode checklist.
- Turn Your Podcast into a Course, a video course on turning a back catalogue into a paid audio course, and selling it properly. Free: Is your archive a course?, a 30-minute audit.
- What Does a Gaffer Do?, a video course on what the lighting department does on a film or TV set, how light behaves and how people get into the work. Free: The lighting department on one page.
- Live Production: Vision Mixing and Streaming, a video course with an optional practical day at the barn. Free: The live stream show-day checklist.
- Light the Cove, one day in the White Space lighting an infinity cove, for six people. Free: A cove lighting diagram to draw each set-up on.
- In Front of the Lens, half a day at the barn on standing, moving and looking natural on camera, for six people. Free: Before your shoot.
- Crew Ready: The Lighting Department, two days working as a lighting crew, for eight people. Free: Your first day on a lighting crew.
What it isn't
None of the courses is a qualification, and none promises an agent, a job or an audience. Each course page says what it covers, what it doesn't and who it isn't for. The days at the barn are for adults.
If you're not sure which course is for you, Academy news sends one short email as each course opens, with the dates for the days at the barn, and nothing else. Questions go to studio@granary.digital or 01243 884993.
